Our Northland Projects
Springs Flat, Whangarei – Roundabout
An $18M project to construct a new roundabout on State Highway 1 providing connection to Springs Flat and Kamo East. The project involves construction of a large box culvert, retaining wall and significant earthworks. S&RC has provided extensive geotechnical investigation, analysis of settlement, liquefaction and slope stability, and design of ground improvements and retaining structures. Construction is underway with geotechnical construction monitoring and continued technical support provided by S&RC.
North Park Drive, Kaitaia – Pile Driving
A 650m² multi-use building supported on >200 timber piles driven to 12m depth through alluvial soils. S&RC provided deep geotechnical investigation using machine borehole and CPTs to inform settlement and liquefaction analysis and geotechnical foundation design input. S&RC carried out vibration measurement during construction to monitor potential effects on neighbouring buildings and provided observation and QA review for pile driving and fill compaction.
Kent Road, Whangarei – Subdivision
A 16-Lot subdivision adjacent Whangarei Boys High School. The site is located at the edge of a basalt lava flow, with alluvial deposits and pre-existing fill present across lower lying areas. S&RC provided geotechnical investigation using hand augerholes, test pits, machine borehole and CPTs to inform settlement analysis, geotechnical foundation recommendations and design of timber pole and reinforced masonry block retaining walls up to 3m high. S&RC provided earthworks and retaining specification and monitored construction with Nuclear Densometer (NDM), clegg hammer, scala and shear vane testing.
Kamo Road, Whangarei – Medium Density Housing
A development providing seven new two-level dwellings within Central Kamo. The site straddles deposits of volcanic and alluvial soils which presented potential settlement and liquefaction challenges. S&RC provided analysis of hand augerhole and CPT investigation data to design shallow ground improvements, comprising geogrid reinforced gravel raft, avoiding the need for deep foundations and providing a cost-effective yet robust solution.
